NGT asks if probe into green violations in Mumbai SRA project

Mumbai: The National Green Tribunal ,NGT) asked the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) and the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) on Monday to clarify whether a joint committee had probed the alleged environmental violations. Worli SRA Project.

The tribunal had directed the committee to take necessary remedial action on alleged environmental clearance violations in the SRA project on Annie Besant Road in Worli.

The NGT sought the clarification after admitting an execution application filed recently by two residents of the slum rehabilitation component building. It issued notices to the chief executive officer of the SRA and others for alleged non-compliance of its earlier order to provide 500 car parking spaces for slum rehabilitation buildings.

The Pune bench of NGT Western Region, Justices DK Singh and Vijay Kulkarni issued notices to the developers as well as the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board.

The NGT issued the notices after hearing Aditya Pratap, counsel for the applicants Santosh Patil and Manoj Salvi. For SEIAA, Advocate Anirudh Kulkarni appeared before the NGT and accepted the notice.

Both cited the NGT order of February 2022 to restrain the developers from selling any more flats till the order to provide 500 car parking slots is complied with.

The NGT had last year said that “not a single parking lot has been provided in the rehabilitation homes, resulting in overcrowding”.
