Mohali: The Punjab The government will construct 5,000 flats for economically weaker sections in Mohali. A total of 25,000 such flats are to be built across the state.
Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Aman Arora Unfurling the National Flag on the occasion of 74th Republic Day on Thursday at Shaheed Major Harminder Pal Singh Government College, Phase 6, SAS Nagar (Mohali).
Addressing the district-level Republic Day function, Arora announced that the Punjab government has proposed to build 25,000 EWS flats across the state. He said that the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (gamada) Under the first phase of the scheme, 5,000 flats will be constructed for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in the city.
These flats of EWS housing scheme to be built on 75 acres of land will be started soon. During the ceremony, freedom fighters Gurdeep Singh and Savarn Singh of Jhajjo village were honored by the cabinet minister. Freedom fighter Kehar Singh of Basman village was honored by the district administration at his residence.
Farmers take out tractor rally in Mohali on Republic Day
Hundreds of farmers took out a tractor rally in Mohali on Republic Day in support of their demands. They have started an indefinite dharna (pakka morcha) at the Chandigarh-Mohali border against the state government for not accepting their demands.
Traffic was disrupted due to the protest march but no untoward incident was reported. Mohali police also deployed adequate police force to control the protesters. The Chandigarh Police was also on alert and police force was deployed at the border to prevent the protesters from entering the city. Due to the ongoing protest of farmers on the UT-Mohali border, this road has been closed for the passengers for more than a week.
