The Minister directed the District Registrar Firms and Societies to ensure early elections in the housing societies for the formation of new RWAs. “No eligible resident can be denied membership of an RWA. During the meeting, the District Registrar was instructed to issue instructions to all societies to give membership of RWA to all eligible residents as per rules.
Depriving residents of RWA members and delay in the election of RWAs is a common problem faced by residents of residential societies in Gurgaon. RWAs generally refuse membership to residents who are not aligned with them and delay elections to remain in office. Residents claimed that even after the election, the rival faction filed several petitions before the registrar and the courts to delay the process to stay in office.
“Once people become RWA office-bearers, they are often not inclined to transfer power to a new body after completion of their term or elections. They use all possible means to maintain their position at the cost of the overall development of the society,” said a resident of Sector 48.
