MumbaiThe central government has doubled the income slab for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh for housing schemes under Affordable Housing (AHP) projects in partnership in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) Urban (PMAY-U).
This will increase the number of people who are eligible to avail affordable housing MHADA and CIDCO lottery PMAY Houses in urban areas.
MHADA issued a press note on Monday claiming that the increase was done after the Maharashtra government requested the Centre. The agency said, “The objective of increasing the income slab is to expand the eligibility and access of affordable housing to persons belonging to EWS category. Also, maximum persons belonging to EWS category can avail the benefits of MHADA’s housing lottery in MMR.”
Under Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), the central government provides a subsidy of Rs 1.5 lakh per housing unit. The AHP vertical approves projects with a minimum of 250 houses, of which at least 35% are reserved for the EWS category.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Board of MHADA released a draft list of applicants participating in the upcoming housing lottery for 4,082 flats in various parts of Mumbai.
The draft list includes a total of 1,22,235 applications, out of which 527 applications have been disqualified while 14,990 applications are still under scrutiny.
Till Monday, 1,06,799 applicants will participate in the lottery. This number may change after MHADA declares the final list on July 24.
The housing lottery was earlier scheduled to take place on July 18 but was later postponed. MHADA has not yet announced the revised date and venue.
