Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has appealed to citizens to share information regarding unauthorized use of residential properties for commercial purposes.
“The PMC has set up a war room to trace such properties and take action against them. The move is aimed at reducing illegal use of these properties.” Ajit DeshmukhPMC’s property tax department head told reporters on Tuesday. The PMC has urged citizens to WhatsApp details of such properties, including their address and location, to 8308059999.
According to PMC officials, the civic administration had appealed for voluntary declaration of commercial use of residential properties. But only a handful have done so. The PMC plans to levy additional property tax from occupants and owners of wadas and other properties that have been converted into food joints.
A circular in this regard was issued by the Commissioner. “Many illegal food shops are being operated from residential properties. He has not taken any consent from the building permit department. Users will have to pay three times the property charges as per legal provisions,” said Vikram KumarPMC Commissioner, in circular.
According to the circular, several civic organisations, local leaders and residents have complained against food joints including monthly messes, restaurants, hotels, bars and pubs.
These establishments operate till late night or early morning and play loud music, causing disturbance to the residents. PMC has decided to join hands with MSEDCL to detect illegal use of residential properties for commercial purposes.
