Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said on monday Jammu and Kashmir The administration here has started providing plots of 150 square yards to the landless families to build houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.PMAY, The LG said that five marlas of land (1,360 square feet) would be provided to each landless family.
“A few years ago the Prime Minister decided that every poor person should have a roof over his head. The main hurdle here was that there was no provision to give land to landless families. He said, “We have given plots to 2,711 landless families Jammu And Kashmir, We will provide land as per the list we have and hope to clear the current backlog by March 2024.”
Sinha said that this step will bring a change in the lives of poor and landless people in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said, “The rural development department has identified 1.83 lakh families who do not have their own house. We are working on it. This is a step that will not only provide them a house but also bring a change in their lives.”
“With the housing needs being addressed, these families will start thinking about earning a better livelihood and education for their children. This puts them on the path of development,” said Sinha.
The Lt Governor said that the Union Territory Administration is bound to provide land to the remaining landless families.
“In the last 3-4 years, we have been successful in providing social justice to the people. There is no contradiction in our talks and actions,” he said.
Refusing to give any details of the beneficiaries under the new scheme, Sinha said, “We do not discriminate on the basis of religion or region. We have provided land to those who were eligible as per the law.”
Asked about the government’s demolition drive earlier this year to reclaim state land, Sinha said the administration “hasn’t touched the poor people”.
“We have not touched the poor. There were some anomalies but they were also rectified. The poor should have the first right on government resources. Land will be given as per the law. Wherever sympathetic consideration is needed, it will be done.” ” They said.
Responding to questions on the Amarnath Yatra, Sinha said the annual pilgrimage is going on smoothly and the pilgrims have responded very positively.
“We have got more than 95 per cent satisfied response from the pilgrims. We lack in traffic management but we have also taken steps to improve it,” he added.
“Efforts are being made to make passengers aware about ROP and related drills. Media is requested to give wide publicity to these advisories,” said the Lt Governor.
Sinha said Srinagar is becoming “an eventful destination” after the successful conduct of the G20 event, followed by hosting of several national-level events in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Several high-profile events were organized. People have cooperated with the administration and the media has also played a positive role,” Sinha said.
