Vadodara: Housing scheme for the urban poor was constructed by the residents of Jeevan Nagar Vadodara Municipal Corporation ,vmc) And himmatnagar developed by Gujarat Housing Board (GHB) made representations regarding the dilapidated condition of their houses.
A controversy has erupted over the condition of the houses in Jeevan Nagar as it was completed about 10 years ago and has already developed cracks and leaks. Concrete piles are also falling from the slabs of the roofs of these houses.
The VMC has blamed the residents for the situation and claimed that the houses were poorly maintained. However, residents say that the problems in the housing scheme were due to the shoddy quality of work. They have demanded that they be provided with new houses or allowed to resettle in the area from where they were evicted a decade ago.
Himmatnagar residents find themselves in a difficult situation as their houses which were built four decades ago are unfit for human habitation. The residents submitted a memorandum stating that they had paid the full amount for the houses and the sale deeds should be executed in their names.
The residents of Himmatnagar also demanded that redevelopment of their housing scheme should be considered. He assured that they are all ready for redevelopment and will give this in writing in the affidavit.
