Minister wants FIR against societies discharging sewage, Real Estate News, ET Real Estate

Gurugram: Union Minister and Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjeet Singh asked the officials of Manesar Municipal Corporation If societies release untreated sewage in the open, file a police complaint against the developers. He demanded similar action in case of irregularities in the rain water harvesting system.

Discharge of untreated sewage in new areas has been a major cause of concern, the minister said, adding that he has received several complaints in this regard. During earlier inspections, sewage treatment plants (STPs) were found either missing or non-functional in many societies.

Residents of these areas have been raising health and environmental concerns about the way untreated sewage is being discharged here.

“Discharging untreated sewage in the open pollutes our environment and groundwater. An FIR should be registered against such societies,” said Singh, who inspected various projects of the civic body on Saturday.

The Minister reviewed the utilization of funds by the Panchayats which were recently merged with the Corporation. He also discussed with the officials the issues related to water supply, rain water harvesting, property tax collection and other works. Singh also directed the officials to consult the villagers before preparing any development plan for the rural areas.

Singh also expressed concern over the depleting ground water in the area and stressed on the need for rain water harvesting. “All rainwater harvesting pits in residential societies should be checked and cleaned before monsoon to ensure maximum conservation,” he added.

He asked the officials to look into the complaints raised by the residents regarding potholes.

Meanwhile, Singh inaugurated seven projects worth Rs 9.1 crore of the corporation. These included the construction of Prajapati and Harijan Chaupals. Manesarand the construction of a road in Kasan.
