Ahmedabad: Police help sought to evict protesting families and seal their apartments Rameshwar Apartment In Sola on Tuesday. About 17 families did not accept the redevelopment agreement that Gujarat Housing Board ,GHB) signed with the developer.

The redevelopment of the society – a High Income Group (HIG) scheme – will be the largest such project in the state going by the number of homes and commercial properties coming up in the area.

The society has 312 flats spread over 20,749 sq. meters. Over 75% of society members have agreed to the new redevelopment agreement GHB and societies under the amended Gujarat Flat Owners Act.

Under the redevelopment agreement, these homes will be replaced by 15 14-storey towers, a mall and several shops as part of the commercial development.

After the completion of the tower in three years, more than 1,500 people will come to the society.

In 2021, the estimated cost of the project was Rs 54 crore.

Jayanti Patel, one of the members of the protesting group Rameshwar Hit Rakshak Samiti, says, “We tried to withdraw our consent given to GHB as initially there was no plan for commercial development. We were told that the project Will be completely residential.

He says, “The cost of the land is over Rs 600 crore. Today, 17 protesting families were evicted and their houses sealed.”

Disagreeing, Sandeep Trivedi, president of the society, says, “The plan for 800 flats and commercial development was placed before all the members.

Out of 312 members, 296 agreed on the redevelopment formula. Of the 17 opposing members, 10 have now given consent for redevelopment.”

To make the project viable, the GHB in its 2019 revised redevelopment guidelines had said that after redevelopment of houses, the developer should utilize the remaining permitted FSI for creating affordable housing stock and developing the free sale component.
