Panchkula: Umbrella Organization of RWA (Resident Welfare Association) HaryanaHaryana State Huda Sector Federation (hshsc) held a meeting with the RWAs of Panchkula where they expressed concern about the harmful effects of HUDA’s stilt plus four story plan on their neighbourhood.
The members have decided to meet the Governor of Haryana and collect one lakh signatures against the new “illegally amended building code” of HUDA.Haryana Urban Development Authority).” The members of the HSHSC threatened massive protests across the state if the government failed to heed them.
HSHSC state convenor Yashveer Malik said that stilt plus four storey scheme in Haryana has become a major issue for the residents. He said that the problems of sunlight, air, water, parking etc. have started coming to the fore in HUDA sectors and in some places cracks have appeared in the surrounding houses.
Malik said they had launched a campaign against the building code introduced by HUDA by holding a meeting in Panipat on January 29. “After visiting several districts and meeting RWAs, we started the signature campaign in the state. So far 50,000 people have signed against this building code and more are joining. We expect to receive one lakh signatures of residents by February 18,” Malik said.
He said that when the target of one lakh signatures would be met, he would submit a memorandum to the governor requesting a ban on such structures in the state.
Mohinder Balhara, District Convenor, Panchkula HSHSC, said, “Residents had invested their hard earned money in HUDA sectors for their pre-designs, which included sunlight, air and proper water and sewerage with indoor parking. The facility was promised, not the apartments that have started being built. suddenly without the consent of the residents already living in the sectors.”
Malik alleged that the residents did not want the design, which was aimed at benefiting private builders. “The government amended the building code without following the legal process,” he claimed.
According to the HSHSC members, if their demands are not met, they will launch district-wise protests against the state government, including large-scale protests in all districts in a peaceful manner.
If our demands are not accepted then the gherao of the HUDA office and Haryana Chief Minister’s residence will also be a part of our protest. We demand from the government that such construction should be banned.
