Noida: The Electricity Department has started the exercise of changing single point to multi point connections in the city’s housing societies. The campaign, which was stalled for two years due to the pandemic, has now gathered steam.
Officials said they had identified 55 skyscrapers for conversion. Of these, 26 were yet to respond to the notice on their choice of electricity connection.
As per the 13th amendment to the Electricity Supply Code, 2018, all apartment owners should have direct and individual connections to discoms. This means that housing societies with single point connections will have to shift to multi point mode. Societies that want to continue with single-point connections will have to submit consent from 51% of the residents.
The government’s move to do away with single-point connections followed several complaints from residents about maintenance charges being levied arbitrarily by builders.

Now, residents often end up paying inflated bills in such cases as even the cost of power supply to common areas like lifts, gyms and clubhouses is billed as “miscellaneous charges” to apartment owners.
Despite concerns, residents of several societies in the city are in favor of single point connections. They fear that if separate meters are installed, the builder will not pay attention to the power distribution in the common area.
“We want to continue with the single-point connection. Most of the residents are not willing to bear the cost of dual meters. If there are separate meters then who will look after the power supply in the common areas?” asked Amit Gupta symbol wisteria In Sector 77.
Officials said that the work of changing the mode of electricity connection is going on in four societies.
“We have identified 55 highrises for installation of multipoint meters. There are 15 societies where multi point connection is done. Ten others have given their consent for conversion. Work is underway in four societies – RG Residency in Sector 120, Ajnara Grand Heritage in Sector 74, Civtech Sampriti in Sector 77 and AIMS Angel Golf Avenue 2 in Sector 75,” said Shivam Tripathi, executive engineer, PVVNL.
Tripathi said reminders had been issued to the remaining 26 societies to allow conversion at the earliest or respond with residents’ consent for single-point connections.

Some of the societies that want to continue with the existing connection include Prateek Wisteria and Griha Pravesh in Sector 77 and Eldeco Invitation In Sector 119.
PVVNL chief zonal engineer JB Singh said the department has not yet fixed any deadline for the conversion.
“We are strictly implementing the order as the pandemic has delayed the process by two years. But first, we have to get a clear picture of how many societies really want to convert to multipoint connections,” he said.
