The order came from the deputy commissioner of the Housing Board in the wake of several complaints to the commissioner regarding rampant illegal construction in the township.
A preliminary survey revealed that such constructions are rampant in Sectors 5, 10 and 12, and notices have been issued to owners to vacate flats so that demolition drives can be carried out.
“As per the rules, it is illegal. This practice is prevalent in the township and the Housing Board has taken note of it. It is in the process of identifying such illegal flats, following which a demolition drive will be undertaken,” said Aman Tyagi, executive engineer of the board.
“We have also written to various banks to verify the status of the properties with the UP Housing Board before giving home loans to consumers,” Tyagi said.
