a punishment: The newly introduced WhatsApp chatbot is getting good response from citizens who want to offer citizen services related to property tax Pune Municipal Corporation ,PMC) More than 88,000 citizens have used the service within a month of its launch.
After introducing the service for property tax, PMC is now making it available for water tax payment also. This chatbot will also provide services like death and birth certificates.
This facility allows citizens to get information about their property tax. It is available round the clock. Citizens can access this chat service by sending a WhatsApp message to 8888251001.
Information including tax dues and payment details will be available. They will also get payment receipt, no objection certificate, online payment, tax bill, user registration, payment by cellphone number and self-assessment of property tax.
According to civic officials, these services were available on the PMC website. They have also been made available through handheld devices. “Many citizens need to visit PMC offices multiple times to obtain these certificates and documents. These hassles will be reduced as the services will now be available on cell phones. Upgradation of the system is underway. New services will be available to some Month,” Ravindra BinwadeAdditional commissioner of PMC told TOI.
Citizen data shows that around 11 lakh properties are under the purview of the property tax department. The civic body generates around Rs 1,600 crore to Rs 1,800 crore annually from property tax. Most of the citizens pay tax through online mode with the percentage of payment more than 50% through e-wallets and net banking.
About 30,000 to 40,000 death and birth certificates are allotted annually in civilian areas. This number has increased after the merger of 34 villages with the PMC. A decentralized process has been introduced for issuance of certificates. Citizens can also obtain these certificates in 16 ward offices.
