Civic body rolls out redevelopment plan for quarter housing for its employees, Real Estate News, ET Real Estate

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation ,PMC) has decided to redevelop the old and dilapidated municipal houses being used as residential Facilities for civilian employees.

The city administration plans to redevelop two municipal corporation buildings. Nana Peth, About 100 houses will be built by spending about Rs 15 crore.

“An architect empaneled with the civic administration will carry out the design and monitoring work for the project. The project is expected to be completed in 30 months,” said a senior PMC official. According to civic data, the PMC has around 4,000 properties, of which around 200 are meant for civic housing. Many of these are more than 30 years old.

According to officials, the Civilian Housing at Nana Peth is one of the oldest residential facilities for civilian employees. It was built about 50 years ago. It has 48 flats in two buildings, which will be converted into a single tower. The property is spread over 1,370 square meters and will be replaced by a building of about 5,300 square meters.

The Estimates Committee of the PMC has approved the project and earmarked Rs 3.5 crore for it. The remaining Rs 11.5 crore will be raised in the subsequent municipal budget. A special provision of 72B Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act 1949 will be made applicable for future payments of the project.

“The civic administration will redevelop other residential properties of the PMC. Factors such as its structural stability, location, number of residents living in a property will be considered before taking a final decision, said a senior PMC official.

According to PMC officials, the civic administration will also check whether the use of the housing complex is proper or not and whether there are illegal occupants. The civic body had started geo-mapping civic properties, including municipal housing societies, to avoid their misuse.

Officials said the campaign would provide data on municipal properties and their current status and help detect problems like encroachment, illegal use and mismanagement of civic properties.

The PMC has introduced a centralized system of renting out municipal properties. According to the arrangement, all the rights to choose the tenant have been given to the commissioner’s office.
