Chandigarh: In an effort to revive its beleaguered IT park housing project Chandigarh Housing Board ,chb) has once again approached the Board of Wildlife for approval.
CHB has submitted a bird expert report which states that the project does not come in the direct flight path of migratory birds. It has also said that due care will be taken in the design and implementation of the project in this regard.
The board has already made two attempts to get the project approved.
In December last year, the CHB submitted a revised proposal for approval National Board for Wildlife, The CHB proposal was returned by the UT Wildlife Department without forwarding it to NBW as it did not find justification for fresh submission of NBW on old basis.
The CHB had argued that the project is beyond 1.25 km of the Sukhna eco-sensitive zone, which permits construction of new buildings and houses regulated as per the existing Chandigarh Administration Building Byelaws and architectural control/zoning regulations.
Earlier, the NBW had rejected the project in October last year saying it comes in the way of migratory birds. NBW also argued that the waste generated along with noise and air pollution would have a detrimental effect on the sanctuary and the birds.
There are three plots in which CHB has planned multi-storey group housing societies at its 123-acre site in the IT park.
Project site Plot 1 & 2 is 1.56 km away from Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary
, Project Site Plot No. 7 is 1.52 km from Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary. The total area that comes under the protected area is about 9 hectares.
In June last year, the state wildlife board headed by UT administrator Banwarilal Purohit approved the plan. The board had also unanimously agreed to send its proposal to the National Board for Wildlife for necessary approval.
