Fadnavis said Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be invited to inaugurate five lakh houses that would be ready by March. “PMAY (Gramin) is doing a great job in achieving the targets set for it. A target was set to build 10.5 lakh houses. Maharashtra was number 1 in completion of projects in earlier years, later it slipped down the ranking. A review by our government showed encroachment, non-availability of plots as reasons for the delay. Then we formulated a new policy to regularize encroachments, provide land…,” he said.

He exhorted the district administration to ensure that sand (six brass) is made readily available as mandated in the policy for houses to be constructed under the PMAY scheme.

A new target of 3.5 lakh houses has been set under Awas Plus to cover those who have not made it to the PMAY list. Fadnavis said that there are still people who are not covered under any housing scheme. Fadnavis said that the state will formulate a new policy to ensure that Maharashtra is the first state which is free from homeless people.

Shinde said that the government belongs to the common people and it is working to fulfill the dreams of the common people.
