A concrete and practical plan for the rehabilitation of the slum dwellers was discussed during the meeting. After discussing several modules, the possibility of removing slums and giving each of them a marla plot was finalised. Gupta said that a meeting will be held with the Chief Minister soon. During this meeting, it was also considered to give the benefit of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to the needy. On the other hand, the Speaker said that hundreds of slums are being built daily in the city. For this, the district administration, Hooda and Municipal Corporation officials have been directed to take strict action.
The Assembly Speaker said, “Previous governments had made many promises to solve the problems of slum dwellers in Indira Colony, Rajiv Colony and Khadak Mangoli. PanchkulaBut these promises have not been fulfilled. Money was also deposited from the poor twice in the name of giving houses or flats, but after that no development took place. I have directed the concerned authorities to refund the money with interest.”
Gupta also reviewed the rehabilitation schemes already underway in the city and told the officials that due to lack of proper maintenance of Ashiana flats, people are facing problems and directed to remove these problems.
Gupta said, “Despite the Supreme Court’s decision, illegal encroachments are still continuing in the city. I have asked the municipal corporation and HUDA officials to remove these illegal encroachments at the earliest.”
