Pune: Members of around 1,000 cooperative housing societies in the city that are more than 30 years old await the implementation of the single-window system announced in September 2019 for approval of self-redevelopment projects.
Under self-redevelopment, the residents of the society take on the responsibility of construction by appointing a developer and ensuring control over the project.
Recently, a society in Sahakarnagar had to wait for over a year to get necessary approvals for self-redevelopment. Members of the State Housing Federation said that this is the reason why many other societies have adopted the wait-and-watch policy.
Suhas Patwardhan, Vice President, Maharashtra The State Housing Federation said that a meeting was to be held with the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister before the assembly session, but could not be held. “While there are over 45,000 eligible housing societies in the state that can go in for redevelopment, the single-window system proposed in the September 2019 policy will help,” he said.
Of the 1.2 lakh registered cooperative housing societies and apartments in the state, about 45,000 are more than 30 years old and are eligible for redevelopment. In January, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had told TOI that the state government was planning to reintroduce the single-window system and implement the 2019 order. However, even after four months, the state government is yet to issue the order, preventing many societies from applying for self-redevelopment, said state housing association representatives.
The federation’s advocate Sriprasad Parab said, “The federation has made a representation to the government to implement the provisions of the single window system for approval.”
Parab said that Maharashtra State Bank has budgeted for self-redevelopment, but is yet to implement the same.
