Pune: Citizens will now be able to register their property documents even on weekends as the State Property Registration Department has decided to keep its 27 offices, including five offices, operational. Pune and in one MumbaiOpen on Saturdays and Sundays.
Against a total of 516 property registration offices in the state, earlier only five were functioning on weekends.
Revenue Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil The department’s proposal in this regard was approved on Wednesday, state IGR HH Sonawane said on Thursday. He said that of the 27 registration offices that have been allowed to function over the weekend, five are from Pune, one from each Mumbai City, Thane Nashik And Nagpur,
The demand was raised earlier by developers as many home buyers preferred to register their documents on weekends instead of working days due to job commitments.
In Pune, in two offices pimpri chinchwad Municipal limits, two at Kothrud and one near Pune Collectorate will remain open on weekends. “Employees working in these 27 registration offices will be given weekdays off to make up for the extra hours,” Sonawane said.
CREDAI Pune-Metro president Ranjit Naiknavare told TOI that the developers’ body has been demanding this for a long time. “The number of people visiting the registration offices is increasing and this initiative will surely help the citizens to register their documents at their convenience,” he added.
Citizens said the move would help everyone. Mahesh Verma, who took two days off from work for registration of documents, said weekends were always a better option for both citizens and builders.
