Mumbai: The Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis government announced a new housing scheme named after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the scheme ‘Modi Awas Gharkul Yojana‘ was unveiled by state finance minister Fadnavis in his first budget speech.
Under this scheme, one million houses will be constructed for the Other Backward Classes in the next three years. Modi belongs to OBC and the plan is clearly to attract the OBC votebank in the state, with an eye on the Lok Sabha and assembly elections next year.
An outlay of Rs 12,000 crore will be provided over the next three years. Of these, three lakh houses will be completed in the year 2023-24 at a cost of Rs 3,600 crore.
Fadnavis reiterated the government’s commitment to the Prime Minister’s Housing for All, 2022, announcing a program to construct 10 lakh houses in rural areas.
He said, “Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, four lakh houses will be constructed this year. Of this, 60% – 2.5 lakh houses – will be for SC/ST beneficiaries, while 1.5 lakh houses will be for other categories. ”
