Tamil Nadu Housing Board to tie up with private firms, build houses at 12 locations

coimbatore: The Housing and Urban Development Department is planning to build houses at 12 locations across the State through a joint venture with private developers, Minister S Muthusamy said here on Tuesday.

After chairing a consultation meeting with the flat owners of Singanallur Housing Unit, the minister said that the department would start joint venture model for construction of 960 flats in Coimbatore.

“Singanallur flats built 35 years ago have been damaged, residents have urged the state government to build new houses for them. We will construct new houses for them at the site through a joint venture of the Housing Unit Association, a private constructor and tnhb,” He said.

The minister said that the houses would be built using the aluminum formwork system, Mivan technology, within two years. “The developer will use the existing space to build housing units and will get some flats in return. The structure would last at least 80 years. Elsewhere residents of TNHB societies are demanding new houses and six such projects are in the final discussion stage.”

Power Minister V Senthil Balaji, Coimbatore Collector GS Sameeran and Corporation Commissioner M Pratap were present.
