New Delhi: Union Minister Anurag Thakur said on Tuesday a space audit of the buildings Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Due to this, more than 11 lakh square feet of space in 20 cities became vacant.
During an informal interaction with reporters, Thakur said that about Rs 22 crore has been earned through space audit and efficient management of buildings under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Space audit started on 29 September with Thakur’s visit Doordarshan Kendra in Ahmedabad and concluded in Bhopal on Monday.
Thakur’s personal inspection of buildings housing offices of the ministry in Mumbai led to the clearing of 90,000 square feet of space at prime locations, which, if let out, could have fetched the government crores in revenue.
The vacant space is spread across 20 cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kurnool, Chennai, Thrissur, Thiruvananthapuram, Jabalpur, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Coimbatore, Panaji, Amritsar, Sambalpur, Bhawanipatna, Puducherry, Mangaluru, Berhampur and Bhopal.
Thakur said that the ministry is now planning to co-locate its various offices in the space vacated during the audit so that there is greater synergy among partner organizations and effective dissemination of information through integrated publicity schemes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program on 25 December also mentioned the space audit conducted by the ministry.
