LucknowMore than two dozen residents of five houses where they lived were asked to vacate their residences after a portion of the street collapsed. Gawne Road In golaganj On Wednesday, they face an uncertain future regarding their return and the safety of their families.

Talking to TOI on Thursday, he told how his life turned around in 24 hours.
Syed Miraj Ali (55), a resident said, “My 85-year-old bed-ridden mother went through a lot of pain during the shifting process. It is very difficult to live like this when you don’t know about your return and whether it will be safe enough for my family or not.
He alleged that the municipal officials were unaware of the illegal construction activities.
“If they (the government) have asked us to vacate the accommodation, they should also provide us accommodation,” he said.
Other residents also expressed similar sentiments and demanded immediate relief and temporary accommodation till their houses are restored.
Rashid Rizvi, a 32-year-old businessman, criticized the authorities for improperly handling the case.
“We cannot live on the streets. We are staying in a hotel but don’t know how long we will be able to afford it. The agencies responsible for this mess are to blame. The police should take action against such guilty officers.”
Anish Siddiqui, a 43-year-old bank employee, said he and his family were asked to vacate their house, but he has no relatives in Lucknow.
“Today morning, some officials met us and asked us to vacate our house as soon as possible, but we cannot go anywhere else as we do not know anyone here. The government has not given us a place to stay,” Siddiqui said.
Rehan Qazi, 67, said his family of nine, including four children and two senior citizens, is facing a tough time staying with their relatives.
“We have a lot of stuff in our house. We cannot leave everything and go somewhere just because of lack of administration by the government and short sightedness of some builders,” he remarked.
Others said the incident was also a reminder of the dangers of illegal mining, which can wreak havoc in the lives of people living in the area.
Earlier, two FIRs were lodged against the builder of the apartment – one by the mining department and the other by the LDA – and the latter was arrested.
Locals claimed that the huge cave had weakened the foundation of the Kathak museum, which is located in the antechamber of Bindadin – the ancestral home of Kathak gurus Lachhu Maharaj and Birju Maharaj. However, officials denied there was any immediate threat to the museum.
