New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council ,NDMC) has started a door-to-door survey of all the properties in its area to verify the information given in property tax Recorded by residents. A recently released public notice said the survey is mandatory and will continue for a month.

“Survey of all properties including land and building i.e. houses, shops, plots, commercial buildings and other properties in the jurisdiction of NDMC will be conducted during the month of July. The property tax department officials will conduct the survey. NDMC’s public notice said, “It is mandatory for all residents to provide information related to their properties to NDMC officials. It is also requested to keep the necessary documents related to the properties ready at the time of survey.”

The assessment list for the year 2023-24 has been prepared on the basis of tax returns filed by the owner, occupier and lessee for the previous year (2022-23). After preparing the list, the NDMC had also invited residents to verify the details by visiting the property tax office at Palika Kendra and submit their objections in May. Preparation of valuation list is an annual exercise to be carried out as per Section 70 of the NDMC Act.

“We usually conduct house-to-house surveys after a gap of 4-5 years, as properties change in terms of their size and composition,” said an NDMC official.

The total property tax collection in NDMC in 2022-23 was Rs 932.5 crore as compared to Rs 951 crore in 2021-22. There was a collection of Rs 690 crore in 2020-21, Rs 687 crore in 2019-20 and Rs 638 crore in 2018-19. In NDMC areas, properties are mostly of four types of use, which include residential occupation, commercial self-occupancy, tenant and commercial tenant.
