Panchkula: After about a month Haryana Assembly Speaker Gyanchand Gupta announced that a marla plot or land would be given to slum dwellers in the city to make the city slum-free. Huda ,Haryana Urban Development Authority) has identified two locations for the rehabilitation project. The authority plans to allot one plot each to the slum dwellers so that they can build their own houses.
HUDA Chief Administrator Ajit Balaji Joshi told Speaker Gupta that the authority is working seriously on the project and has identified two pieces of land, comprising 40 acres in Khark Mangoli village and 20 acres in Sector 20.
The plan has been shared with the Speaker and will be shared with the Chief Minister as well Manohar Lal Khattar, If Hooda gets approval from CM then the work will be started. Speaker Gupta said, “Rehabilitation of the slum dwellers of Panchkula is my priority. The concerned officers have been instructed to work in this regard and the plan will be presented to the Chief Minister for approval.
On 15 May, Haryana Assembly Speaker Gyan Chand Gupta announced that a plan was being considered to give a marla plot or flat to slums and slum dwellers. Gupta held a meeting with senior officials of the Haryana government, including DS Dhesi, chief principal secretary to the chief minister, and Ajit Balaji Joshi, chief administrator of HUDA, at MLA Hostel, Sector 3, to discuss a workable plan for the rehabilitation of the slum dwellers. After discussion on several modules, the possibility of removing slums and giving one marla plot each was finalised.
During the meeting, provision of benefit of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana The needy were considered. The speaker told that hundreds of slums are being built in the city every day and has asked the district administration, Hooda and municipal officials to take strict action in this regard.
