Kochi: even though Greater Cochin Development Authority ,gcda) have said that they will inaugurate life mission housing project in Mundamveli by the end of May, the project is not likely to be completed even in June. The project missed another deadline of May 31 and the GCDA moved the High Court seeking an extension of 15 days.
With monsoon approaching the state, rains are likely to affect work in the coming days as the Thrissur District Labor Contract Cooperative Society (TDLCCS), the contractor, is struggling to finish the work.
According to GCDA sources, around 90% work of Block 2 has been completed and the remaining work will be completed in around 15 days. However, there is a lot of work pending in Block 1 and it will take more time.
“Plaster, tiling and installation of window frames, grills, shutters and door frames are pending in Block 1. But Block 2 will be completed soon as only common area work is left. But we can inaugurate only after the work of both the blocks is completed.
The project, which started four years ago with the aim of rehabilitating the residents of P&T Colony, has already crossed several deadlines.
83 flats are being built in two four-storey buildings on 70 cents of land. Each flat has an area of 375 sq ft with two bedrooms, a living-cum-dining room, kitchen and a toilet. In addition, each building will have common facilities like sick room, day care, admin room and reading room as well as rain water harvesting tank, drinking water tank and fire protection system.
The total cost of the project is Rs 14.61 crore with approximately Rs 16 lakh per unit.
