Since May last year, Noida Around 200 illegal structures including 190 farmhouses built on the flood plain of the river have been demolished.
In June 2022, it issued a public notice prohibiting any construction on the flood plains of Yamuna and Hindon in Noida. The authority warned that the cost of the demolition drive would also be recovered from the owners of such illegal farmhouses.
On Tuesday, a joint team of officials from Noida Work Circle 9, Land Records and Irrigation Department conducted an operation in Sector 135’s Nagli Nagla, Asadullapur, Chhaprauli Bangar and Dostpur Mangrauli villages amid heavy police force.
Over 100 personnel from Noida, three earthmovers and five dumpers were involved in the operation, which faced occasional protests.
The drive is a part of Noida’s continued efforts to crack down on illegal constructions on the flood plains of two rivers, which were accorded protected status by the UP Irrigation Department in 2015.
Noida CEO Ritu Maheshwari told TOI that any construction is strictly prohibited in the submerged area of Noida.
Urging people to buy or sell illegal farmhouses built on flood plains, he said: “The Noida Authority Will initiate criminal action against those involved in unauthorized construction along the river banks and in notified areas.
Earlier in February, some farmhouse owners had approached the Allahabad High Court seeking a stay on the demolition drive by Noida. The court gave them 10 days time to file objections and also directed the authority to maintain status quo during this period.
The authority received more than 300 objections. After answering them, it announced that no concession would be given to the owners of farmhouses built in the flood plain area.
Earlier a survey conducted by the Noida Authority revealed that there are around 1,000 farmhouses along the banks of the Yamuna.
