Hyderabad: Literary infra scam main accused B Laxminarayan and his family members have been evading questioning Enforcement Directorate, Sources said the accused had eluded ED officials at least thrice as they were not available at their addresses.
The ED has decided to file a petition in the court, seeking a direction to the accused to join the probe. The accused had allegedly duped home buyers of hundreds of crores of rupees on the pretext of pre-launching high-rise apartments. Police allege that the infra company defrauded 2,500 customers to the tune of Rs 900 crore, including Rs 539 crore from Sahiti’s 1,700 flat buyers. Saravani Elite Enterprises in Aminpur. The police have registered 46 FIRs in connection with the scam.
ED sources said questioning of the accused family members is important for probing the money laundering angle under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
Recently ED officials had searched the properties of Poorna Rao, the director of Sahiti Constructions, ED is probing the money laundering angle based on an FIR lodged by the Central Crime Station Hyderabad Lakshminarayan was arrested in December last year in a cheating case by the CCS police.
The ED asked the Sangareddy district sub-registrar not to transfer or register the properties in the name of Sahiti as they were liable to be attached under the PMLA.
It was alleged that the real estate firm delayed land acquisition, permits or physical execution of the project. The refund process got delayed and is yet to be completed.
The company advertised the pre-launch offer of a residential gated community of 32 floors and 10 towers with various amenities on 20 acres of Aminpur village in Sangareddy. However, the company kept delaying the execution of the project and failed to return the money. Many flat buyers faced the crisis of ‘cheque bounced’ or ‘check stopped by drawer’.
CCS officials had said they have identified 20 more accused, including Laxminarayan’s wife Parvati and son Satwik, for their alleged role in the multi-crore fraud.
