New Delhi: Delhi Development Authority ,D.D.A) has shelved its plan to launch a housing scheme for 23,000 flats.

Said that the scheme will be started only after getting approval in the authority meeting. D.D.A Member and BJP MLA Vijender Gupta, “Since no meeting could be held in May, the project is now likely to be put up for approval in June,” he said.

A DDA official said the scheme would be launched in phases. “We are going to offer a lesser number of newly constructed flats after studying the market response, and not all 23,000 flats will be put up for sale at once. We have decided to amend the housing policy before the first phase of launch. is also planned, which is likely to happen by mid-June,” the official said.

Only after approval the rates of flats will be finalized and allotment of houses will be done through computerized draw of lots. Most of these flats are located in the Narela sub-city.

After the last amendment, for the first time, any person who owns a flat or plot in Delhi measuring less than 67 square metres, became eligible to apply for allotment of newly constructed flats offered by the DDA. The official said that prior to this amendment, DDA rules did not allow any person to apply for allotment of flats if he or his family members had any flat or plot, irrespective of the area.

A senior DDA official had earlier said that to avoid confusion, the authority is planning to stop the sale of flats (around 16,000 units) under the old housing schemes after the launch of the new scheme. “We may stop the sale of these flats for a month or two when the new scheme starts,” said the official.

In order to improve the sellability of new flats, the DDA has taken various remedial measures, including improving transport infrastructure, construction of Urban Extension Road-II, allowing consolidation of flats, allotment on first-come-first-served basis and buyers includes some concession. ,
