Earlier, the cost of such houses was in the range of Rs 10-12 lakh, which was not affordable for most people in the low-income group, said Satish Lokhande, chief executive officer of the slum rehabilitation department. Maharashtra Government.
Lokhande said, “At present 2,205 houses are ready, which can be given to slum dwellers under this scheme. Some schemes of 700 to 800 houses are also in the pipeline and will be completed in due course.”

Welcoming the decision, Nationalist Congress Party MLA Jitendra Awhad said the file of the scheme was transferred when he was the state’s housing minister (in the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government).
“Since the (MVA) government fell, I could not take the scheme to its logical end. At present there is a provision that people cannot sell such houses for seven years, which is harsh. I ask Fadnavis to reduce this period. Request to do 2.5.” year,” Awhad said.
