Mumbai: The state government has approved the payment of outstanding rent to 672 residents of the police station area. Patra Chawl From January 2018 to February 2022. He will be paid Rs 25,000 per month for this period.

The decision has come as a huge relief to the residents who have been out of their homes for over a decade. Many of them have left the city, unable to afford the rent. The rent is to be paid by MHADA, which will cost around Rs 85 crore, for the arrears from January 2018 to February 2022.
In 2021, the MVA government had approved the revival of the redevelopment of Patra Chawl The work which was stalled since 2008. The decision was a windfall for MHADA as it was appointed as a developer and allowed a floor space index (FSI) of 4 as against the original 2.5 FSI. Also, as a one-time special case, MHADA was allowed to sell the flats at market rate so that the authority can recover the cost to be incurred for the project. Experts say that it is estimated that MHADA will get about four lakh square feet of built-up area for construction and it will be one of the most profitable ventures of the authority.
“We have been told that the amount will be given as a one-time payment and immediately. We will get around Rs 12.5 Lakhs for the period Jan 2018-Feb 2022. We refused to collect the rent from March 2022 until they gave us the dues. Now, MHADA will pay us from Jan 2018 till now and this amount will be around Rs 15 lakh. This has come as a great relief and we thank our Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who took the decision to pay us the outstanding rent,” said Rajesh Dalvi, president, Siddharth Nagar CHS.
Dalvi said the residents have been assured that their houses will be ready and allotted to them by the end of the year.
