Amravati: Expressing serious displeasure on the state government, the Center has asked to complete the work. Tidco House immediately and hand them over to the beneficiaries.

The state government is struggling to raise Rs 8,000 crore to complete the pending works. The state government launched about 2.86 lakh houses through TIDCO (Urban Housing) about seven years ago and has been unable to hand over the units to the eligible poor.

As the state government keeps on postponing the schedule to complete the work, the Center directed Tidco officials to stick to the next deadline and hand over the houses to the beneficiaries.

The state government is delaying the completion of pending works due to paucity of funds. In fact, the Center had sanctioned around 3.13 lakh houses in urban areas in 2017 during the TDP regime.

Though the then TDP government started the work, it could not complete the housing projects before the elections. Subsequently, the YSRCP government reviewed the entire project and canceled around 51,000 housing units citing irregularities in the selection of beneficiaries.

The state government had promised to give all flats above 300 square feet free of cost and fixed a very nominal price on other flats.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy Instructions were given to the officials to prepare at least 1.5 lakh houses for distribution by last December itself. Thereafter, the deadline has been extended till Sankranti festival in January and again till Ugadi in March.
