DDA offers buyback, reconstruction, flat swap options to owners of Signature View Apartments

A senior DDA official said that under the rehabilitation plan, three options have been given to the residents.

“We have offered three options to the residents – one is to buy back the flats at the prevailing rates, the other is to reconstruct the flats and offer them on rent for the period the construction is going on And the third is that we offer them DDA flats at other places,” he said.

A meeting was also held between DDA officials and residents on Thursday, in which the latter raised some questions on the options offered by the DDA.

Asked if the residents have been given any deadline, the official said they have been asked to quickly choose an option as the building is dangerous.

“The MCD will also join it after they are elected,” he added.

Explaining the three options, he said that DDA has such flats which are available for exchange. As an alternative to rent, DDA has done a market analysis of rent in Mukherjee Nagar and surrounding areas.

“If they accept the reconstruction proposal, we will reconstruct them as per the existing norms,” ​​he added.

Constructed in 2007-2009, the complex comprises 336 HIG/MIG flats.

However, soon after, the flats started facing construction issues, forcing the residents to complain to the DDA. A 2021-2022 study conducted by IIT-Delhi at the behest of the DDA found the building to be structurally unsafe.

The study also recommended “vacating and destroying” the complex, the official said.
