Chandigarh: As it prepares to roll out free installation of rooftop solar power plants Resco model, the Chandigarh Renewable Energy And the Science and Technology Promotion Society (Crest) has asked the UT estate office to initiate action against houses of 1 kanal and above in which the mandatory installation has not yet been done.
In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner-cum-Estate Officer, CREST has said, “Action as deemed fit may be initiated against the defaulters. residential The houses where solar power plant has not been installed till date.
The UT administration in May 2016 made installation of solar photovoltaic power plant mandatory for all residential buildings with a plot area of 500 square yards and above, within two years from the date of notification. The deadline, which was extended several times, ended on March 31, 2021.
Of the 5,955 residential houses with plot size above 500 square yards, only 3,200 have installed rooftop solar power plants.
“The estate office was also approached earlier to take action. The administration has given enough time to compulsorily set up the solar power plant. But even now strict action will be taken against those who do not follow the mandatory provisions. With the launch of the Resco model, two models will be available to residents, the Rajdhani being the other, said an official.
Under the capital option, residents can set up power plants at their own cost and get the benefit of full surplus earnings.
