‘Muttathara flat complex to be completed in 15 months’, Real Estate News, ET Real Estate

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan reviewed the progress of flat complex being built for fishermen MuttatharaIn a high-level meeting convened here on Monday.

In the meeting, the Chief Minister urged the officials to complete the work of the flat complex within 15 months. He said that continuous monitoring should be done to complete the project in a time bound manner.

He also reviewed the progress of the decisions taken by the government under the agreement reached with the Latin Archdiocese. Vizhinjam Port construction which lasted 140 days.

The Chief Minister urged the District Monitoring Committee to ensure that all the assurances given by the government to the fishermen are fulfilled without any delay.

The government had sanctioned Rs 81 crore for the construction of the flat complex under the ‘Punargeham’ project of the fisheries department. The government had handed over the land to the fisheries department for the construction of the complex. As per the plan, 400 flats will be constructed to rehabilitate 3,000 families.

Major demands of Vizhinjam Samara Committee It was that 284 families living in rehabilitation camps at Valiyathura should be immediately shifted to rented houses.

The government is providing Rs 5,500 per month for rent till they are given permanent shelter. After the completion of the project, priority will be given to these families.

The progress of conversion of kerosene-powered engines of fishing boats to LPG/Diesel engines was also reviewed in the meeting convened by the Chief Minister.

During the strike, the Vizhinjam Samara committee demanded an increase in the subsidy on kerosene. However, the government had expressed its inability to provide it as the Center has limited the supply of kerosene to the state.

The government had said it would provide a one-time 50% subsidy and steps would be taken to replace kerosene-powered locomotives with alternative fuels.
