GurugramResident of : Chintel Paradiso Protested on Sunday and said that they will not vacate their flats until they are given houses on the same spot.

On Sunday morning, residents of towers D, E, F, G and H of the Sector 109 society held a meeting and decided that they will not leave the complex until the administration shares a rehabilitation plan.

Last week, the Town and Country Planning department had asked the developer to vacate towers E and F, citing an IIT report that had termed the buildings unfit for habitation. The district administration has decided to demolish Tower D, where two residents died when five living rooms collapsed on February 10 last year.

“Most of the residents want to construct flats on the same site and of similar specifications. We are thinking of meeting the Director of Town and Country Planning Department in this regard. If needed, we will also meet the Chief Minister.

Residents said they were apprehensive that the government might invoke the Disaster Management Act against them. He alleged that many of the residents who had vacated their flats were finding it difficult to pay rent to the developer.

“We would rather die in our homes than live without a roof. We will not vacate our flats until the developer assures us that the cost of rehabilitation will be borne by the company. Also, construction of flats should be done on the same site in a time-bound manner,” said Sushil Kumar Rohilla of F Block.

Putting such conditions before vacating the flat is like blackmailing. We are ready to pay the fair market value of Rs 5,500 per sq ft to all the flat owners in towers D to H. ‘House for house’ on the same site is impractical and not possible.
