Unique Identification Number for New Town Addresses in Kolkata

Kolkata: To make communication with citizens more hassle free and seamless and provide citizen services faster, New City Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has come up with a proposal to introduce unique identification number (UIN) for all individual houses and flats in New Town gated communities.

The authorities will receive the feedback and suggestions of the residents in the next 14 days. The proposal, once finalized and presented, will be the first of its kind for any civic body area in the state.

A UIN will help the authorities to identify any entity within the New Town by just a single number. “NKDA provides various citizen-centric services such as mutation, building plan approval, water connection, completion certificate, trade license, property tax. For large housing units with multiple towers, blocks and floors, there is no distinct individual identity.

This makes it difficult to get the details – like tower number, level number, apartment number, flat number – while providing any service to a particular citizen. “Often it creates a problem in locating the applicants,” said an NKDA official.

“From the point of view of citizens, they will no longer have to go through a long process to avail any service. Simply providing their UIN will do the job,” the official explained.

The proposed UIN will be an 18 digit identification number containing all the details of a particular residential unit.

The first eight digits indicate the complex number, the next three digits indicate the phase number, the 13th to 15th digits indicate the block or tower number and the last three digits (16 to 18) indicate the flat number.
