Gurugram: The CBI Team investigating vertical cave-in of five flats Chintel Paradiso In which two residents had died on February 10 last year, a letter has been written to the Deputy Commissioner and the District Town Planner to share the information about the case.
Apart from project details and related approvals including license, occupation certificate (OC) and construction information, the probe agency also sought IIT reports related to testing of samples.
The CBI took over the investigation on January 17 after the Center’s order came on December 29, 2022. However, the original FIR was registered by the Gurgaon police on February 12 last year. The Haryana government itself had recommended a CBI inquiry on July 18 last year.
In a letter to the deputy commissioner, CBI’s Chandigarh branch chief Navdeep Singh Brar said scrutiny of police records revealed that a committee headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Vishram Meena was constituted to look into the matter.
“For the purpose of investigation, copy of the minutes of the meeting of the Committee, details of collection of samples, correspondence with IIT-Delhi And copies of original reports of other institutes, IITs and other institutes regarding testing and various complaints regarding substandard execution of work (are required),” read the letter.
The agency also requested the district administration to depute an officer well-acquainted with the facts and circumstances to produce the records at the earliest.
In another letter to the District Town and Country Planning Department (DTCP), the CBI sought details related to the project, including the copy of licence, building plan approval, OC and other related approvals. “We are preparing a file to make it available to the CBI for the CBI to start its probe,” said an official.
Officials said both the letters were received on Sunday.
On February 10 last year, two residents were killed when the dining room floor of a sixth-floor flat in Tower D in Chintels Paradiso in Sector 109 collapsed, causing roofs and floors to collapse straight up to the first floor.
Soon after they were trapped in the cave, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed by Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav.
With two FIRs registered in the case, the SIT begins its probe, only to make its first arrest – Amit Austin, owner of Manish Switchgear & Construction, the company that was carrying out repair work in flat D-603, which led to the collapse. Gaya – on November 21 last year.
