“We have received an application from the owner of 8/1A Lower Rawdon Street to demolish the existing building on a sprawling 23.6 Kota plot. We have no objection, but we need to monitor the demolition process to ensure that That proper pollution guidelines are being made and followed during the demolition process,” said a KMC building department official.
The two-storey bungalow that Ganguly has bought at 8/1A Lower Rawdon Street has a carpet area of around 10,000 sq ft and a sprawling lawn spread over 7,200-8,000 sq ft. The bungalow also has an outhouse, covered garage for two cars and paved driveway. A KMC building department official said they were waiting for a detailed building plan from the Ganguly family after the demolition.
According to the official, the property is at the end of a cul-de-sac and provides privacy to the resident, even though it is located in a busy central Calcutta neighbourhood. Real estate observers feel that the plot is ideal for a bungalow as the width of the road will limit vertical development.
A KMC official said that if the width of the road was 6.75 metres, a G+4 storey building could have been constructed. If the width is 9 meters or more then G plus 12 storey building can be made. If the road is wide, there is no height limit for construction residential buildings.
An official said that the G+4 building could be constructed on Lower Rodan Street. An official said, “Let Ganguly submit the building plan, we will examine the same and extend all support as per civic rules. After all, the former Team India captain’s new address should be one of the milestones.”
Though TOI tried to contact Ganguly, he neither received calls nor responded to WhatsApp messages.
