Maharashtra Real Estate Appellate Tribunal (MREAT) has quashed the order passed by the Maharashtra Real Estate regulator authority (Maharera) regarding property portal registration as realty agents and has directed the authority to hear the matter afresh.
The Real Estate Authority had asked web portals to register as real estate agents in October 2019. The web portals challenged this order stating that they were not facilitating any sale but were merely providing information to the public through advertisements.
The property portals also claimed that they suggest people visit their websites to check details of a project from other authorities, including MahaRERA, before finalizing their decision.
In July 2018, the body of consumers Mumbai The Grahak Panchayat (MGP) had filed a complaint with MahaRERA stating that the web portal should be registered as a real estate agent with the authority.
