Noida: The Noida Authority It has been decided to allow the installation of lifts in three and four storey buildings for the convenience of the elderly – almost 8 years after a proposal regarding this was made by a committee.
As per the existing building bye-laws in the city, lifts are mandatory if the buildings are more than five floors tall.
Officials said residents had been approaching the authority for several years with requests to allow elevators in buildings higher than three storeys.
“The current rules make it mandatory for multi-storey buildings to have lifts, but till now there was an exemption for apartments up to 4 floors. This is because old buildings in the city – both by the authority or private developers – do not have lifts. Over the years, many elderly residents have approached us with applications for lifts in buildings that are more than three storeys high. An official said that he was finding it difficult to climb stairs regularly.
In 2015, a committee headed by the then Additional CEO of the Noida Authority had proposed installation of lifts in smaller buildings. But the plan was never implemented.
A fresh investigation led authorities to the 8-year-old proposal. It was put up in the last board meeting in December and was later approved.
However, the authority has prescribed certain terms and conditions. Applicants will now have to obtain no-objection certificates from those living on the first and second floors and also take permission from the local RWA and fire department.
Applicants have to bear the cost of installation only. They will have to submit an affidavit to the authority enclosing a detailed map of the block and towers indicating the height and surrounding area.
After submitting the application, a team of officers will survey the buildings. Lift will be allowed on the basis of verification. License fee will also have to be paid as per the Building Regulations, 2010.
The move is expected to benefit over 35,000 flat owners in the city.
Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Association president Yogendra Sharma said, “We welcome the decision of the authority. There are many societies in sectors like 52, 82, 35, 34 and 61 where the Noida Authority has constructed low-rise buildings without provision of lifts. This is not a new demand. We have been demanding a lift for a long time.
