I often hear painful responses from my clients and students about how it is impossible for them to find time to meditate. I agree that meditation may not be your thing, yet that doesn’t mean you can’t allocate some time each day to tune into an energy greater than yourself, to remind yourself, “As up and down…”
You don’t have to meditate for hours, but dedicate some time to yourself! This time that you dedicate will help you to understand yourself in a deeper and deeper way. As a mother of a nine year old and ten fur babies, I find myself in a whirlwind of activity every day. Add my work life to this set of responsibilities and you get mayhem. Still, I’ve been making this “me-time”, even if only for a brief moment, for myself over the years because I think it has benefited me greatly. I want you to try these four different things to facilitate a deeper connection with Spirit.
Yes, some days you will falter and on some other occasions you will excel. It’s just part of the journey. embrace it. Connect to a deep center of joy to appreciate what this world has to offer. And how do I connect, you ask? Take turns into simple, imaginary and intuitive scenarios or as I label them as mindscapes. Tune into the right brain of creativity, artistry and inspiration and life becomes a true gift.
The four steps outlined here will help you develop a rigorous spiritual mindset and, with discipline and desire, you will find yourself in a blissful storehouse of cosmic blessings.
1. Chanting
Now you can chant mantras like Gayatri Mantra or Om Namah Shivay and you can also chant switch words. Most spirituality posts on various platforms will tell you, Meditate! But meditation is not something we can jump straight into. Thoughts, they attack us, and our mind gets distracted. How many people can maintain concentration long enough to enter into meditative bliss. Hardly a big percentage! That is why chanting is the first step to control your thoughts and monkey mind. When you breathe and chant correctly, even if it’s a switchword like “together,” you begin to lose mundane consciousness and a switch is flipped, allowing you to freeze your brain’s hard disk. 2. focus between your brows and your breath
This precious me-time that you should take out must definitely include breathing properly and then fixing your eyes between your brows. That part is known as the Ajna Chakra in ancient yogic wisdom and science calls it the pineal gland. Once this area is focused, it activates your preconscious and subconscious which make up more of your conscious mind. Ahh! This is definitely my favorite spiritual self-care ritual! I spend a good amount of time reading and siphoning through spiritual articles in leading newspapers and on digital platforms. When we read spiritual experiences summarized by someone living this lifestyle, we certainly participate in the wisdom imparted. Most of the spiritual masters skip this practice, but believe me it will be a pearl in your spiritual treasure. Some of my most inspired spiritual experiences have come from the pages of deep mystical wisdom and it’s really easy to start this practice. So why wait?
4. forgiveness and gratitude
There is a hardcore science behind both gratitude and forgiveness and let me try to clarify a few points. Never underestimate the benefits of practicing gratitude and if you take some time every day to think and reflect on why you are grateful, it allows certain chemicals in the brain to be released. You experience positive emotions and feel deeply connected to the outside world. Sleep grows and your relationships grow stronger. It actually strengthens your immune system which in turn helps you fight disease. Don’t reserve gratitude for important occasions, but express gratitude as often as you can and smile widely. Now we turn to forgiveness, which is mostly of three types and all are interrelated. Self-forgiveness is the starting point from which we learn to let go of guilt and shame. The next type is forgiving an enemy or someone who has hurt you, which is the trickiest type because we humans don’t forgive and forget. But let’s make a start. Think of someone who has hurt you and try to identify the feelings that arise in your conscious mind. These associated feelings can be anger, denial, shame, guilt, hurt, pain, abandonment, disrespect, the whole gamut of negativity. Now write them down and name the person who stirs up these negative feelings and slowly let yourself be free. Let it go and then burn the paper. Imagine the dispersal of emotions as the paper turns to ash and you break free. The last type of forgiveness is divine forgiveness which assures us that God/Goddess has forgiven us and adds to our sense of self-worth.
Surrender to these practices with full joy and watch how they transform your life in 2023. To surrender is not weakness; In fact, it is a subtle act of accepting and letting go. Of course, it is a path paved with treacherous twists and turns, if one becomes trapped in the labyrinth of one’s own mind. The key is to replace reaction with awareness.
