Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sandeep Garg said that the SHOs of the area have been instructed to conduct checks in various PGs under their jurisdiction. “We will once again issue instructions and get weekly reports from SHOs regarding the inspection of PG accommodations,” he added.
The police officials could not provide any data of challans issued on PGs for the last two years. He said that the exercise was stopped due to the Covid pandemic but would be resumed.

Sources in the authority said that they will again conduct a thorough survey of the PGs and check whether they are running as per the policy. As per the Gamada policy, those who want to run PGs will have to pay Rs 10,000 as processing fee for three-year permission to run PG accommodation. The applicant has to get the permission renewed every three years.
Gamada officials said that people do not get their PG accommodation registered as they would have to pay tax applicable on commercial property apart from paying more in the form of electricity bills.
“We issue notices on the basis of the survey report. The PG is sealed only after a personal hearing. So far around 25 paying guest accommodations have been registered and we have sealed five,” said the estate officer, Gamada. He said that a survey would be done in collaboration with the local police and final action would be taken after the completion of the survey.
