ChandigarhCracking down on property tax defaulters, Chandigarh Municipal Corporation sealed four commercial in properties Manimajra in the last three days.
The list of commercial tax defaulters has been prepared and approved by the concerned authorities. Sources said more such properties would be sealed in the coming days.
“There was property tax of Rs 30,000 in his favor on all these properties. Though the amount was not much but the defaulters were not taking it seriously. The amount was not paid even after giving several chances. This left the authority with no option but to seal four commercial properties in the area,” said sources.
Authority is focusing on property tax from commercial property. Recovery notices are also being sent to tax defaulters of residential properties, but sealing notices are being sent to commercial properties, as the authority cannot seal houses. Besides, commercial properties are keeping the maximum amount with them,” said sources.
The Municipal Corporation has set a target of Rs 80 crore in the current financial year (2022-2023) from April 1. This amount also includes pending dues with various departments and authorities. This has been mentioned in the annual budget of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation.
