Pune: Property owners in civic limits will soon be able to check whether their tax bills are correct or not as the municipal corporation is set to provide sector-wise details of annual taxable value.
Annual Allowable Value (ARV) is a base value based on property tax Calculated. This information along with the formula for tax calculation will be made available offline at the department’s office in Shivajinagar as well as on the PMC’s website.
“Citizens will be able to check property details and tax levied on them using the data provided by the PMC. If property owners have any grievance regarding tax amount or assessment, they can take it up with the civic administration,” said Ajit DeshmukhHead of PMC’s Property Tax Department.
According to PMC officials, the records can be accessed from December 20 to January 15 during PMC working hours. Any complaint about incorrect assessment should be made in writing to the tax department.
The residents have welcomed the move and urged the PMC to make it an annual feature. “If citizens get to know the details of property tax in advance, it will be helpful. Presently, we pay the bills without verifying them assuming that they will be correct. But now there will be no room for doubt. The system is good, and should be made into an annual facility by the PMC,” said Gauri Kulkarni, a Kothrud resident.
Rucha Joshi, a resident of Satara, said timely correction of bills would reduce future hassle for property owners.
“Once the bills are paid and the owners come to know that it was wrong, recovering the money from the civic administration can be a complicated process. This can be avoided if reforms are done well in advance,” he said.
