The policy provides that all jhuggi-jhopris and settlements built before January 1, 2006 should be eligible for rehabilitation and those built before January 1, 2015 will not be demolished and no new ones will be built before the compensation is paid. allowed to come.

“We have provided alternative accommodation to the eligible people, but only a few of them have taken possession of the flats,” he told the House.

He said, “The seven government colonies coming up for redevelopment are spread over an area of ​​536 acres and the number of ‘slum’ households identified is 507, which means there is less than one slum in less than an acre of land. ”

Puri said that 100 EWS flats have been purchased from the DDA to be eligible for rehabilitation. But, thereafter a large number of slum dwellers, whether deserving or not, have gone to the courts and obtained several stays.

“Out of 370 or so JJ Cluster, we have already conducted surveys on 210 of them. Recently the Prime Minister released 3000 flats in Kalkaji to the beneficiaries and two more such projects are ready.

The minister said that we are in an advanced stage of the process of conversion of all JJ clusters under DDA to provide modern flats except those clusters which are below. DUCIB (Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board).

Puri said the central government will conduct a survey and convert them into modern flats as the Delhi government has not taken any action on them.

The minister also suggested that informal settlements should be used instead of slums.

In his written reply, the Minister said that the Central Government is implementing the project for redevelopment of seven common pools. residential Housing (GPRA) Colonies in Delhi, spread over an area of ​​536 acres.

“The area of ​​each of these seven colonies is – Sarojini Nagar 255 acres, Netaji Nagar 111 acres, Naoroji Nagar 25 acres, Kasturba Nagar 50 acres, Tyagraj Nagar 14 acres, Srinivaspuri 73 acres and Mohammadpur 8 acres.

“Under this GPRA redevelopment project, 12,970 existing old houses are being replaced by 19,206 new houses. The slums in the project area, which are eligible for resettlement/rehabilitation as per the eligibility criteria prescribed in the policy notified by the Govt. National Capital Territory of Delhi K, suitable accommodation is offered,” he said.

Puri said that the eligibility criteria, inter alia, includes existence of such slum settlement before 01.01.2006 and slum before 01.01.2015.

“In these colonies, there are 507 number of ‘Slum’ households, out of which 113 are eligible ‘Slum’ households and 394 are ineligible ‘Slum’ households.

“100 EWS flats have been purchased at Narela for resettlement/rehabilitation of eligible ‘jhuggi’ families. Delhi Development Authority (DDA), of which 90 have been allotted to eligible ‘jhuggi’ families, five of whom have already taken possession of the new flats. However, 18 eligible ‘slum’ families of Thyagaraj Nagar (Prem Nagar) have obtained a stay from the Hon’ble Delhi High Court,” the minister said.

The minister also said, “No proposal has been received from the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi for the development of slums.”
