Gurugram: The Sohna Municipal Committee will start demolishing 179 illegally constructed farm houses in Raisina from December 12. AravaliState Forest Department told National Green Tribunal on Friday.

A total of 424 farmhouses in Sohna were believed to be built illegally on land that is protected as ‘Ger Mumkin Pahar’ under Section 4 of the Punjab Land Preservation Act (PLPA).

Of these, 80 had been demolished by November 30, 165 had got a stay from the court and the remaining 179 are yet to be demolished.

“We have already given notices to the farmhouses, which will be demolished on December 12. NGT direction. Due to the GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan against Air Pollution), the demolition process got delayed,” said an official of the Sohna municipal committee.

In September 2021 NGT had given instructions Haryana And Rajasthan governments should take immediate action to remove illegal structures in Aravalli.

The court passed the order while hearing a petition by Sonya Ghosh (Delhi resident) alleging illegal construction in Gar Mumm Pahar area.

The matter dates back to 2013, when the NGT took suo motu cognizance after TOI published a report on January 7 titled ‘How private players grabbed forest land in Aravalli’.

Later that year, it became Sonya Ghosh v. State of Haryana. Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav said that the administration will send a duty magistrate for vandalism in Sohna.
