Chandigarh: biggest property tax According to the Municipal Corporation (MC), the defaulters are living in the northern part of the city.
The civic body has so far sent around 2,300 notices to most areas in both north and south areas of the city to recover over Rs 4.20 crore from defaulters.
In terms of dues, Sector 15 tops the list with a payment of Rs 39.86 lakh. After this, Rs 31.02 lakh is due in Sector 8 and then Rs 27.96 lakh in Sector 22.
On the other hand, as per municipal records, maximum defaulters are found in Sector 22, with the MC issuing 229 notices, followed by Sector 8 with 154 notices and Sector 15 with 150 notices.
Mostly, people living in these areas are financially secure and own comfortable houses, it is even more surprising that they have failed to pay their dues during the grace period granted by the MC, sources said, if If they don’t pay on time, they have to face the consequences.
Municipal corporation sources said residents of sectors 2, 3, 4, 7, 9, 10, 11, 18 and 21 are also on the tax defaulters list and have been served notices in the recent past. Though the amount varies from area to area, most of them are yet to deposit taxes running into lakhs to the civic body.
“Property tax notices have been sent as per records and data with MC. Sufficient time has been given to all tax defaulters to pay taxes. Necessary action will be taken against them for non-payment. some residential The sectors have not yet been given the notice, which they will get in the next coming days,” said sources.
