Nashik: The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation‘s (MIDC) The proposed information technology (IT) park is likely to come up on about 100 acres of land on the outskirts of the city, informed an MIDC official on Friday.
Speaking to TOI, the official said the proposed IT park would be around 10 km from Nashik city and the process of land identification is underway. “We have already identified around 500 acres of land Rajur Bahula For setting up an industrial estate. There are also two places near Nashik city where we are planning to set up new industrial areas.
“Apart from these three locations, MIDC is looking for more locations where IT parks can be set up. We will soon give land for IT park.
Earlier, during a meeting with the industrialists of Nashik city, State Industries Minister Uday Samant had announced that an IT park would be set up in Nashik soon. He also promised office bearers of industrial associations to promote the development of the IT sector in the region.
Presently there are more than 250 small and medium software companies in Nashik, but the city is still waiting for a big IT project. Nashik Information Technology Association (NITA) president Hrishikesh Wakadkar said it is a positive development that will boost the growth of the IT sector.
“But the IT park should be near the city. Most of the IT workforce is currently working from home. There are many people from Nashik who are working in big IT companies in Pune, Mumbai and other cities. Most of them are currently working from Nashik. So, IT companies can open their satellite offices in Nashik if we give them space at concessional rates.
Nikhil Panchal, president of Ambad Industries and Manufacturers Association (NIMA), said that the main objective is to attract new investments in Nashik.
“After meeting Samant on Sunday, we met him again in Mumbai on Wednesday. During the meeting, he told us that he would be sending a BPO company to set up its base in Nashik. Besides this, he has also promised all possible help in bringing new IT projects to Nashik,” said Panchal.
AIMA chairperson (aviation committee) Manish Rawal said that industry is the backbone of Nashik as more than 3.5 lakh people are employed in more than 6,000 industrial units across the district. “We also want big IT units in Nashik. The proposed IT park will definitely attract good projects and give a boost to the growth of IT sector in Nashik.”
