Residents termed it as misuse of vantage point and said that Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials were alerted about this activity, but no action was taken.
Due to this, the residents of the area will protest against the development on Saturday.
K Deepak Patil Kharadi Housing Societies Welfare Association ,Poppy seeds) said that “As per the PMC’s development plan, this place has been approved as an exhibition ground for decades, but the civic body is not taking any steps to secure it. Instead, we came to know that a private builder is constructing on the land.
Patil said that the residents had written letters to various authorities, but there was no positive result. “We have decided to put a stop to illegal activities by coming out in large numbers on Saturday.”
Residents will agitate at a particular plot around 8 am on Saturday to register their disagreement over the latest developments.
Patil said that the members of the association have noticed that earth-moving equipment is clearing the land and other such activities are taking place – all these need to be stopped.
Vikas Sukhwani, a resident of Kharadi, said, “Our locality deserves accessible public places. The time has come to address the lack of open areas for community gatherings, interaction and recreation. Let’s come together and advocate for more parks, plazas and green spaces.
The plot comes under Survey No. 53 & 54 and is spread over 15,779 Sq. Meters which is prime amenity location.
Satish Joshi, a resident and KHSWA member, said, “Last week, a private builder started land-grabbing activities without anyone’s knowledge. The plot is surrounded by tin shed and the builder has also destroyed the PMC wall fence. They themselves have started erecting concrete walls. The builder has locked the iron gate to prevent people from entering.
